ABOUT MERCADO

We were there when it all began- the eCommerce promise of an endless variety of goods, available from anywhere at anytime. But with that promise came the commerce industry's newest paradox. With endless variety comes overwhelming choice. Millions of available models, sizes and colors mean that while your 'perfect product' is only a few clicks away- it's virtually impossible to locate amidst so many options. We recognized early on that shoppers want the freedom of choice without the burden of having to sort through every available option. And so, over a decade ago, we at Mercado developed the first search engine focused on eCommerce.

Our unique product index understood the millions of relationships and correlations between the products merchants sell and the language shoppers use to find them. That jeans are a subset of pants (but not vice versa), that there are 269 variations of the color "blue" and that when someone is looking for "digital music players" leaving iPods out of the search results is not a good idea.

Working alongside the early online retail pioneers like Macy's, Sears, and GUESS, we continued to build out our product offering as they built eCommerce into the industry it is today.

Thanks to the growth in popularity of leading search engines – "search" has burst out of the box (literally). The text an online shopper inputs into the tiny box is no longer a simple 'database query', but the initiation of a robust dialogue between shopper and merchant. Mercado's solutions now provide online merchandisers with the most comprehensive suite of products available for engaging shoppers through all phases of the customer journey. Attraction. Conversion. Retention.

Today, our highly scalable in-house and hosted SaaS solutions power billions of dollars in online revenue each year for many of the industry's leading brands. We are proud of the mark we have made on the way people shop and absolutely excited about what the future has in store for customers, merchants, technology, commerce and – of course – Mercado.
